Thales’s life passion is teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is a Second Degree Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Black Belt. Thales’s knowledge and teaching experience make him one of the highest ranking and most sought after Instructors in the entire State. He is easily the highest ranking instructor in the Greater Madison Area. In fact, the majority of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs in the Madison area are led by current or former students of his. Simply put, if you want to commit to learning BJJ ask yourself why you’d want to learn from anyone else! Thales’s lineage speaks for itself:
Thales started his Martial Arts journey at the age of 7 when he began learning and competing in Judo until the age of 10. At that point his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training began. At the age of 19 Thales’s BJJ training got especially intense when he earned his Blue Belt from Luis. After earning his purple belt in 2004 he moved to the U.S. and began teaching. In 2007 earned his Brown Belt and at the age of 30 he was awarded his Black Belt.
Asked why he began studying BJJ Thales says “I was small for my age – somewhat fragile and shy. Because BJJ is designed to overcome strength, size, and athleticism, my father saw BJJ as a way to help me gain strength and confidence. It worked.”
Thales’s talent has carried him all over the world. But it is his skill as an Instructor, not just a practitioner, that has really become known. He has taught military and various police forces in hand to hand combat. “Because the Jiu-Jitsu I learned and now teach is designed for self-defense as opposed to sport, my skill set is perfect for that type of real life training.”
Thales is extremely excited to be co-founder of and Head Jiu-Jitsu Instructor at Rise Up Marital Arts – A place he can call his own and implement a World Class BJJ Program.
